A loaded labor rate.
Set each person's wage, then what rides on top: taxes, workers' comp, overhead, and the drive time between stops. That's what an hour of crew time costs in every margin.
Most job costing is a guess dressed up as a report: an assumed hour, an assumed crew, an assumed margin. Shortcut prices labor from the time your crews actually spent, at what an hour really costs you, and labels every number that's estimated. Every margin says what it's based on.

The problem at five crews
Every lawn care system can tell you what you billed. At five crews the question is what you made: which customers cost you money, which services carry the company, and which crew's day always runs long. That takes labor at its real cost, materials at what you paid, and overhead spread across the stops, job by job.
How Shortcut does it
Set each person's wage, then what rides on top: taxes, workers' comp, overhead, and the drive time between stops. That's what an hour of crew time costs in every margin.
Labor comes from Time Clock punches, the visit's recorded arrival and completion, or billed hours on an hourly service. With no recorded time, the estimate stands in and says so. With no rate, you see a dash, never $0.
On a day when everyone on a crew has a complete shift, that day's jobs are priced from the hours they punched. One missing punch keeps the day on the estimate, so no margin looks better than it is.
Products on a visit replace the service's default material cost with quantity times unit cost. A product with no cost marks the margin incomplete instead of inflating it.
Every completed visit by job, or rolled up by customer, service, or crew: revenue, labor, materials, overhead, net profit, and measured margin side by side. Export any list to CSV.
Margin on each line while you quote, a margin dot on every job while you schedule, a Profitability tab on every customer, and a weekly profit digest by email.
Labor
| Labor | What it means |
|---|---|
| Measured | Real time: Time Clock punches, the visit's recorded arrival and completion, or billed hours on an hourly service |
| Estimated | No recorded time, so the visit's estimated duration or the service's time per stop stands in |
| Unavailable | No time to go on, or no labor rate to price it with. Shown as a dash, never $0 |
Net profit uses measured labor where it exists and estimated labor where it doesn't. Measured net and measured margin use measured visits only.

Software that works out what each job cost you to deliver, in labor, materials, and overhead, and sets it against what the job earned. Shortcut does it for every completed visit and rolls it up by customer, service, and crew.
Time Clock punches, the visit's recorded arrival and completion, or billed hours on an hourly service. When a visit has no recorded time, its estimated duration stands in, and Shortcut labels it as estimated.
No. Without it, Shortcut works out labor from how long visits ran, divided across the day. With it, days where the whole crew has complete shifts use the hours they punched.
Each service can carry a default material cost. When a visit has products on it, their real cost replaces the default: quantity times unit cost.
Yes. Job Costing rolls up by crew, and the Crew Scoreboard shows what each crew produced, day by day. Both are internal-only.
No. Wages, costs, and margins are internal-only and never shown to workers or customers.
